The Path of the Child

First Novel is released
Welcome to the hub that covers my first book called The Path of the Child. The book has taken almost a year to write, rewrite, edit and prepare for publication. With each step I have found myself growing more excited with the prospect of having the finished project on both Kindle and Amazon for people to read,
With the copyright and the ISBN gathered while the editor looks over the final copy, the date becomes more secure for launch of "The Path of the Child". That date will be in March 2012 for both hardback copy and electronic print (e-book).
As a first time writer, I have been learning how the publishing business works. As a new author, I have made the decision to release my work though self publishing. Since J.K. Rowling is now self publishing, it seems I will be in good company.
Working with creatspace and Kindle has allowed me to be hands on during the entire process. With the process being so new, I have felt like an astronaut being launched into outer space for the first time.
My characters that I know and love are going to be seen by new eyes and the nervousness of having them seen by an unknown reader leaves me a bit scared. I can't help but feel like a mother that is taking a child for a Broadway audition. Will everyone see in my child the qualities that I see? Will everyone fall in love with my child as I have?
Yes, this book and this list of characters have become like children to me. Read about them and fall in love with them. These characters want their story to be told.
Meet the Characters
Melanie Easton is the only child of Katherine Easton. She was born when Katherine was only seventeen years old and to be frank, she was not prepared to be a mother at that time. She left Melanie alone much of the time and did not tend to her needs.
Melanie is a self taught young lady. She has always had a love of books and has learned how to interact with people from reading. She is known to mispronounce words because her vocabulary was mostly formed through the written word and so she tends to pronounce the words phonetically that she has never heard aloud.
One of the students in the high school Melanie attends offers her a ride one day and this one act of kindness opens a whole new world for Melanie. When Robert Reynolds befriends Melanie he finds himself drawn into the search for information about why Melanie and her mother are alone, and why they are so separated from society. With a full cast of characters and a rich story line that unfolds throughout the novel, The Path of the Child will keep you interested in the life of this strong determined girl.
When Melanie meets Jim Creek, the owner of the local pizza shop, she finds another person that is willing to stand up for her and realize what a special young lady she is. When Jim offers her a chance to try a new experience, Melanie accepts the opportunity as a perfect escape from the apartment she shares with her mother. Jim believes in Melanie and hopes he has not placed his trust in someone that is not who she seems to be a short time later.
The Journey
This path that I am on has been an incredible journey. I struggled with being able to speak to people about my book and ask people to get to know the characters that up until a year ago were only known to me.
It is with great pride and insecurity that I launch my book within the month. I hope someone finds the characters to be the people that they enjoy getting to know and spending a little time reading of their journey and truthfully I hope that they enjoy their company as much as I did.

Your novel sounds entertaining based on your character descriptions. Good luck with your book! I hope to follow the same path someday by self-publishing my own novel. :) I voted this up and interesting.
